Now Scheduled for Monday Night
Weather Warning Prompts Schedule Change
The Wyoming Department of Transportation, has rescheduled work planned for this Thursday evening, and delayed it until Monday night, March 4, weather permitting. The work will take place from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. The work has been delayed due to the recent Winter Storm Watch for Teton County issued by the National Weather Service. The overnight work includes removing the concrete barriers on the Snake River Bridge on Wyoming State Highway 22 at the intersection of Wyoming State Highway 390, and pothole repairs on the bridge.
Crews plan to repair the large pothole on the west end of the bridge and if they have time, they will address other potholes on the bridge. Traffic will be routed through the work areas at reduced speeds on a single lane under flagging operations.
The removal and relocation of the concrete barrier will require multiple hours of work under a single lane closure with alternating traffic. WYDOT and the contractor have elected to perform this work after hours when traffic volumes are reduced to alleviate impacts on daytime traffic. Due to the nature of the work and the material being used for patching, crews are able to perform the work at night without low temperatures forcing extended closure times. The concrete barrier, once removed, will be reset on March 6th in another area of the work zone for various operations.
The guardrail’s removal and subsequent relocation is anticipated to extend over several hours, necessitating a single lane closure with alternating traffic flow. This after-hours scheduling is a strategic decision by WYDOT and Ames Construction to minimize daytime traffic disruption. The chosen repair materials and overnight work schedule circumvent potential delays caused by low temperatures, allowing for uninterrupted progress.
Originally installed to safeguard traffic during adjacent new bridge construction, the concrete barrier’s removal comes after the completion of cofferdam tasks. With the original bridge rail reinstated, it will stay in place until traffic transitions to the new bridge. The concrete barrier is set to be repositioned within the work zone on March 6th for various operational needs.
Work completion is dependent on weather conditions, with varying delay times influenced by nighttime traffic flow and progress. WYDOT urges motorists to heed all road signs, traffic control measures, and closures during this period.
