Visitation to Yellowstone National Park saw a slight decline for the second year in a row. According to the National Park Service Visitor Use Statistics office. The park recorded 4,115,000 visits, a .04 percent decrease from 2017 and a 3.5 percent decrease from the record-breaking year in 2016. That means despite the decline in visitation, it was still the third busiest year on record. Park officials point out that although there was nobody at the entrance stations counting park visitors during the government shutdown in late December, staff used data from an automated counter that recorded vehicle traffic at the North Entrance and reports from oversnow concessioners to assess visitation during the period. As yet, statistics for 2018 visitation in Grand Teton National Park are not available.
