The states of Idaho and Montana have until December 24thto join Wyoming in seeking to overturn the decision to put the Greater Yellowstone Grizzly Bear back on the threatened and endangered species list. Acting as Defendant – Intervener in a suit brought by the Crow Indian Tribe, the Wyoming Attorney General’s office filed a notice of intent to appeal with the United States Court of Appeals in Missoula, Montana seeking to have the judgement reconsidered on the grounds that the judge failed to consider the entire grizzly population in his decision. Bear biologists say the Grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone area have increased in numbers more than four-fold since 1975 when they were first listed as threatened. The actual appeal in the case needs to be filed by Christmas Eve. At this time, there is no indication whether Wyoming’s neighbors will join in the case.
