Even though Jackson’s mail has been processed out of state for many years, processing for some parts of the state has remained in Cheyenne. That will come to an end if the Postmaster General follows through on a new plan.
The US Postal Service is proposing to move some of its mail sorting services for Wyoming to Denver, Colorado and that idea has rankled Secretary of State Chuck Gray. He says he is worried the move could cause trouble in the 2024 election.
Last week, Gray sent a letter to U.S. Postal Service Postmaster General Louis DeJoy opposing the Postal Service’s proposal to move mail processing operations from Cheyenne to Denver.
“As Wyoming Secretary of State, I oppose this proposal,” Secretary Gray wrote in the letter. “Along with other aspects of the proposal that I find troubling, I’m also concerned that it threatens the integrity of our electoral process and delays the processing of election mail. In addition to requesting that the Postal Service withdraw its proposal, I would like to receive clear clarification as to the status of election mail under this proposal.”
