Yellowstone National Park was swarmed by earthquakes in October with over 250 quakes recorded in the park.
The are experienced three separate earthquake swarms last month including a cluster of 109 earthquakes between October 1st and 15th in an area about 15 miles northeast of Old Faithful geyser.
A small swarm of 21 earthquakes occurred during from October 1st to 8th about 10miles north-northeast of West Yellowstone, MT. This earthquakes sequence that began on September 28.
A small swarm of 29 earthquakes about 4 miles east-northeast of Norris Geyser Basin occurred between October 4th and 8th. This swarm includes the largest quake of the month with a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter Scale.
In all a total of 267 earthquakes were recorded in Yellowstone in October.
Small earthquakes are common in the Yellowstone region with swarm activity accounting for more than half of the seismicity recorded in the park.
The earthquake sequences are measure by a series of seismograph monitoring stations operated by the University of Utah.
