Roads in Yellowstone National Park continue to open

May 5, 2022 by Jackson Hole Radio

Roads in Yellowstone National Park continue to open for the season with the East Entrance over Sylvan Pass slated to open Friday at 8:00 am, weather permitting.  However, conditions in Yellowstone can change quickly, especially during spring and fall, and roads can temporarily close due to poor driving conditions. Park visitors can check current road status on the park website and by calling 344-2117.

Even though the East Entrance is to be open to motorized vehicle travel, visitors should expect up to 20-minute delays east of the park’s East Entrance due to road construction there. As far as the remaining roads still closed from the winter season, conditions permitting, most will open May 13th at 8:00 am. Those include South Entrance to West Thumb, Lake Village to West Thumb, West Thumb to Old Faithful over Craig Pass, and Tower Junction to Tower Falls.

When you enter Yellowstone National Park, you’ll need to buy a park pass at the entrance station. Visitors entering Yellowstone’s South Entrance will be traveling through Grand Teton National Park first and so will pay both entrance fees. Most park visitors purchase their park pass at an entrance gate as they arrive, but they may also be purchased in advance. Seven-day Park passes are $35 for private, non-commercial vehicles, $30 for motorcycles, and $20 for persons on foot or on bicycle.
