A Book for Every Child

The Fund for Public Education and its community partners have delivered over 1,900 books to Teton County School District #1 elementary and middle school students during May through the “A Book for Every Child” program. Fund for Public Education’s Executive Director
Jennifer Jellen says the program not only kindles a love for reading in the children, but it teaches kids that knowledge and stories are for everyone, and that books can be doorways to new ideas and opportunities. “A Book for Every Child” starts with behind-the-scenes work by the district’s school librarians, who carefully select age-appropriate titles for each grade level. Books are chosen for their quality, content, reading level, and interest to kids. Both English and Spanish language books are included, as well as a mix of fiction and nonfiction. Sample books are then provided by local bookstores so that every child has a chance to choose the book that most appeals to them.
This year’s program was funded by the Fund for Public Education; the Rotary Club of Jackson Hole Foundation; the PTOs of Munger Mountain, Jackson, and Colter Elementary schools; Valley Bookstore; Jackson Hole Book Trader and Wilson Book Gallery; and by contributions from generous local donors.
