Air travel nosing up

April 19, 2021 by Jackson Hole Radio

Travel through the Jackson Hole Airport last month made a significant increase over the same month a year ago, reflecting a gradual recovery from COVID-impacted travel in 2020.
According to the monthly report to the airport board, 61% more passengers caught flights out of the valley (still 11% below March of 2019) and fully 86% more passengers arrived than last March – a total of 37,708 (also about 11% fewer than March 2019). As a result, the number of enplanements so far this year is only down about 1% from March of 2020, but 2% above in arrivals.
The numbers reflect an appreciable recovery from March 2020 when the number of people taking a plane out of the valley had dropped by 45% and those arriving decreased by 50% thanks to the COVID pandemic. Flights in and out of the valley during last month increased by 75% helping raise the year-to-date number by 34%.
Jackson Hole Airport was served by Alaska, American, Delta and United Airlines with service to 12 cities across the country, and the summer season ahead will see the addition of Allegiant in June, Frontier this week, and Sun Country in May for a total of service from seven airlines.
