Jackson Hole Airport has ordered a pricey piece of snow-clearing equipment for its runways. The equipment is nearly identical to two already on hand at the airport, one of which is which is near the end of its life expectancy. Known around the airport as a “broom truck,” the vehicle is a combination plow and steel broom machine that scours the runway of ice during winter weather. The two pre-existing vehicles are Norwegian-made Overaasen 400-unit snow-removal rigs which if purchased new, would have cost over $700-thousand each. The unit on order is a refurbished model with a two-year warranty costing the airport $162-thousand. The older unit it will replace will either be sold, or given to another Wyoming airport.
