Today, the Jackson Town Council announced the appointment of Alyson Sperry to fill the vacancy left by Mayor Arne Jorgensen’s transition to office on January 6. The appointment process, which began immediately after Jorgensen’s swearing-in, concluded today following interviews and deliberations held on January 23 and 24.
Mayor Jorgensen expressed his admiration for the caliber of the applicants, stating, “This process has been very rewarding, particularly because of the high quality of all the applicants. I’m still in awe of the five applicants we interviewed. All of them could fill this role well. All of them have important strengths.”
The council’s decision was made unanimously after a series of discussions in both open public sessions and private executive sessions as allowed by Wyoming Statute §16-4-405. Sperry was selected for her unique skill set, her perspective from the service industry, and her outreach efforts within the Latin community. Mayor Jorgensen highlighted Sperry’s focus on community resiliency, particularly through her insights on how stable housing can change lives and facilitate new opportunities.
Alyson Sperry will serve until January 2027, completing the term originally held by Jorgensen. She joins the council for their regular meetings held on the first and third Mondays of each month. The council is also set to hold its Annual Retreat on February 12 and 13 to set priorities for the year ahead.
The Town Council extended its gratitude to all who applied, to the community members who engaged in the process, and to the media for their coverage.
