Another out-of-bounds skier has been injured in an avalanche south of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. According to the Bridger Teton National Forest Avalanche Center, the unnamed skier triggered a large slab avalanche Wednesday in the Left of Broken Branch slide path. The report goes on that the female skier was caught carried a long distance by the slide and reportedly buried except for a portion of her helmet. She was rescued by other people on the scene. However, due to injuries she sustained and loss of equipment to the slide, she was evacuated by the Teton County Search and Rescue helicopter and taken to St. John’s Medical Center for evaluation. This marks the third person in less than a week to be caught in an avalanche with the first incident being fatal. The avalanche center cautions that areas of unstable snow exist in steep terrain at the mid and upper elevations and large slab avalanches can be easily triggered.
