Despite the COVID-19 interruption to life as we know it, the elk continue to drop their antlers. However, those who would come into the area to search for them are advised not to. The opening day of antler season is on May 1st, but the State of Wyoming is directing that anyone who comes from out-of-state, excluding work-related travel, must immediately self-quarantine for 14- days upon entering Wyoming. The Teton District Health Officer has also issued a recommendation that any visitors from another geographic area outside of Teton County, WY who visit the town and county should limit movement and gathering with other individuals who are not their immediate household. All nonresident recreationists are responsible for checking and abiding by state and local public health orders and directives. Anyone who might be coming to Jackson to look for antlers should consider waiting until after this pandemic situation has been resolved. The elk will continue to shed. This just may not be the year to go collect them.
