Most people in Jackson are aware the local scouts did not conduct their 53rd annual elk antler auction in May this year, due to COVID concerns. Several options for selling the antlers were explored, including holding all the antlers until next year, having a live auction or silent auction in September, or having an online auction. The scouts chose an online platform to give people far and wide the opportunity to bid on the antlers. The antlers were displayed online beginning September 9th, and bidding started on September 19th for 9,672 pounds of antlers. While the bids are still being added up, organizers say the tally is about $152,000. In 2019, the scouts sold 10,320 pounds of antlers for a total of $186,227. 75% of the proceeds from the antler sale benefit the National Elk Refuge’s forage enhancement program, while the remainder are used by the scouts for expenses, fees paid to BSA, and local scout activities.
