The Bridger-Teton National Forest Avalanche Center has a new snowmobile to aid in monitoring snow conditions, thanks to the Ski-Doo corporation. Snowmobiles are essential for forecasters to access and maintain our system of remote weather stations. Bob Comey and Chris McCollister took their first ride on the new 850cc sled in the Smiths Fork area of the Salt River Range on December 16th. The two rode to the Commissary Ridge weather station to do routine maintenance tasks and said they were impressed by the quality and depth of snow at the higher elevations. The loan of the sled is being facilitated via formal agreements with each center’s non-profit support organization. The Bridger-Teton National Forest Avalanche Center received the sled from Rocky Mountain Motor Sports in Rock Springs on November 21st.
