The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center in Jackson has cancelled the backcountry avalanche warning for the Teton and Gros Ventre Ranges, Yellowstone National Park, the Absaroka Range, Jackson Hole and the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges. Although avalanche conditions remain dangerous in the back-country, the general avalanche hazard has decreased from “high” to “considerable.” Avalanche forecasters explain that cooler temperatures and significant decreases in snowfall have lessened the avalanche danger. Still, precautionary measures should be taken as large avalanches are still a concern in the back-country. Expert snowpack stability assessment and route-finding skills are essential for safe travel in avalanche terrain.
