Avalanche danger in the Tetons on the west side of the valley continues to be a real concern. Until the most recent 24-hour period, snowfall was associated with increasing temperatures providing for upside down slabs in the Tetons. The Bridger Teton National Forest Avalanche Center reports that twenty-eight inches of snow containing 2.8 inches of water equivalency fell at Rendezvous Bowl. In the deeper areas, layers of weak snow can be found leading to large scale collapse, particularly at the mid and low elevations where there has been earlier season faceted growth. The avalanche center reports to avalanches occurred on Teton Pass Monday. Both were skier triggered. One event was a small slide just above the Mail Cabin Trail and the skier was fully buried. However, he was able to initiate self-rescue in the soft debris before being further aided by his companions.
