The Wyoming Department of Transportation has provided information about the avalanches that delayed the reopening of Teton Pass and the Snake River Canyon Friday morning. According to Spokesperson Stephanie Harsha, the Snake River Canyon saw between 12 and 15 bank slough-offs as large as four to five feet and covering both lanes. Highway crews worked to reopen the canyon from 8:00 pm Thursday until about 11:00 am Friday. Meanwhile, crews on the pass performing avalanche mitigation work, also found themselves cleaning a 12-foot deep deposit off of Beaver Slide. They were able to reopen the pass at about 8:30 am. Then at noon, WYDOT crews closed Hoback Canyon to perform avalanche mitigation work there.
