Grand Teton National Park’s backcountry reservation system was unable to be restored by today as planned. The automated system at recreation.gov is expected to be available in another week on Monday, February 11th. Spokesperson Denise Germann explains that the reservation system is being turned over to a new contractor, and while the users will not see much difference in the online system, details for the new operation are still being completed. At the same time, she says the central website used to review the Mountain Goat Management Plan and Environmental Assessment went down during the shutdown and is expected to become functional again later this week. The public comment period will be extended and further notice will be provided when the system is again operational and a new deadline will be set.
