The northern end of Blacktail Butte, including the trail starting 1/2 mile from the Practice Rocks parking area, has been closed for safety due to multiple grizzly bears feeding on elk carcasses in the area. Parking at Practice Rocks is still available, and hiking is permitted along the base of the butte. All visitors and hunters are reminded to practice bear safety, including carrying bear spray and knowing how to use it. Despite the shift into winter season, grizzly bears are currently active in the park.
