Due to bear activity, the northern section of the Moose-Wilson Road, between the Murie Ranch Junction and the Death Canyon Junction, is temporarily closed to all visitors including motorists, cyclists, and hikers. The Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Death Canyon Trailhead can be accessed from the south.
Park rangers will monitor the situation and will reopen the road when conditions allow.
The previously scheduled road grading operation will take place tonight. The unpaved section of road will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. and will reopen by 6 a.m. tomorrow. Any visitors caught between the closures will be able to exit the area via the unpaved section.
Visitors can learn the current road status by calling the park road information line at 307.739.3682 or visiting www.nps.gov/grandteton and clicking on the “alerts” tab.
