Interior Secretary David Bernhardt says the interior department is looking at ways to allow the nation’s parks and monuments to increase staffing to address the increased visitation. Bernhardt says he signed a directive stating that units that charge entrance fees can use those fees to hire permanent staff.
Bernhardt says we can’t count on either the administration or Congress to fully fund things on the ground – irrespective of the administration – but we can count on the fact that visitors will be there and visitation will continue to go up. Consequently, he says we can use some of the entrance fee resources to ensure the visitor experience is fantastic.
