Noted Avian Naturalist and Author Bert Raynes died Friday at the age of 96. Raynes authored a half-dozen books, including the noted “Birds of Grand Teton National Park and the Surrounding Area.” In 2007, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department inducted Raynes and his wife, Meg into their hall of fame for their support to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Nongame Bird Program through educating the public and providing records over the years on bird occurrence, distribution, and natural history. In 1999, Raynes was also awarded the prestigious Rungius Medal from the National Museum of Wildlife Art. As yet, no plans have been announced for a memorial service.
