Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks has announced that hunting district 501 just north of Yellowstone National Park will be closed to hunting of all bighorn sheep, effective one-half hour after sunset on Saturday. Hunting district 501 shares its southern boundary with the boundary of Yellowstone National Park near Gardiner, Montana. The order halting the hunt came after the pre-established harvest quota for the district has been met. Bighorn sheep inhabit about 3.7-million acres in Montana, and there are 40 bighorn sheep hunting districts in the Treasure State.
