Wyoming Game and Fish personnel have captured 20 bighorn lambs and fitted them with radio collars. 11 of those lambs were in the Whiskey herd and nine in the Jackson herd Consistent with the department’s findings last year, causes of mortality such as predation, abandonment, and accidents occur within the first two weeks of a lamb’s life.
Later in the summer, pneumonia has been the primary cause of mortality, although biologists did not see any pneumonia mortalities in the Jackson herd during the summer. In October, one lamb died in the Jackson herd with pneumonia, compounded by another infection. As of now, there is only 1 collared lamb alive in the Whiskey herd and 5 in the Jackson herd.
