Birds in Wyoming are again testing positive for highly infectious avian flu. The departments Wildlife Health Laboratory in Laramie confirmed positives tests in a blue-winged teal and a great horned owl this month.
Game and Fish is monitoring the outbreak, and it now has an online reporting tool that should help the public get reports directly to the lab.
The lab asks the public to report any sage grouse, raptor or owl found dead or exhibiting neurologic signs.
Game and Fish urges hunters to follow recommendations come from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that say do not handle or eat sick game.
Also, field dress and prepare game outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and make sure you wear rubber gloves while handling or cleaning game.
When done handling game, wash your hands thoroughly and clean knives, equipment and surfaces that come in contact with game.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling animals and do not feed carcasses to domestic animals such as dogs and cats.
