A new lightning-caused fire has been discovered on the Bridger-Teton National Forest east of Gravel Ridge in the Blackrock Ranger District. The fire is being managed for its resource benefits and is being monitored from the air. As of yesterday, the fire was showing minimal activity in relatively dense timber with moderate ground fuels. No smoke has been seen from the fire as yet. The main objectives of the management plan is to keep it from moving south and employing suppression there if necessary to protect values in the Buffalo River Valley which is at least 2 ½ miles away. A type-4 incident commander and type-3 helicopter and crew from Swan Valley, Idaho have been assigned to the fire working out of the Black Rock Ranger Station.
