February 1stwas the launch date for the program to serve girls, ages 11-17 through Scouts BSA. This timing was intended to align with the programmatic timeline so that girls who joined Cub Scouts in 2018 and earned their Arrow of Light would be able to cross over to a troop to continue their Scouting journey. It also means young women can pursue becoming Eagle Scouts, the organization’s coveted highest rank which is highly respected in the academic and professional worlds. Under the program, male and female troops would be independent of each other, although they could share the same charter organization and unit committee which provide oversight for troops. In Jackson Hole, the district is prepared to help establish one or more female troops, but as yet has not had sufficient inquiries to create such an autonomous unit. Meanwhile, the Cub Scout program, and Teton County Search and Rescue’s Venture Scout program currently have young women actively participating. Girls who are interested in Scouts BSA can contact any of the valley’s existing units for more information as the program continues to evolve here.
