Broadband Advisory Council to meet Oct. 12

The Wyoming Broadband Advisory Council will meet at 8 a.m. on Oct. 12 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper to discuss feedback and concerns, relay updates and establish next steps for improving broadband access, reliability and speeds in unserved and underserved swaths of Wyoming.

Topics of interest during the meeting include middle-mile issues; balancing the need to address redundancy and quality of service issues while avoiding overbuilding; net neutrality; grant process requirements; data mapping; public-private partnerships and emerging technologies.
The 2018 Wyoming Legislature tasked the Wyoming Business Council, the state’s economic development agency, with overseeing the expansion and improvement of broadband in Wyoming. That legislation included funding for broadband infrastructure grants.
Since legislation passed, the Business Council has hired a broadband manager, appointed a Broadband Advisory Council, established rules for the grant program and completed a Broadband Enhancement Plan.
