It was the end of the line for the Jackson Hole Broncs Friday night after they went down to defeat at the hands of archrival Star Valley Braves in a fiercely-fought postseason game.
In a game that lived up to the hype, Jackson made darn sure Star Valley knew it was in a game before the wheels came off for the Broncs in the second half.
The playoff contest included plenty of momentum swings, but it was a bit of pregame drama that had the crowd buzzing even before the opening coin toss. The Broncs were a ‘no show’ for pregame warmups, prompting many to ask whether Jackson would show up at all.
The Broncs did arrive minutes before the game after warming up at an undisclosed location nearby. The drama was all in effort to hide from Star Valley an all-new playbook featuring a bunched formation and lots of Jeydon Cox joined by Brody Hasenack in the backfield.
The different look caught the Braves off guard for most of the first half but after a blocked punt and Hasenack going down with an injury, the Braves pulled away, turning a 14-14 tie at the half into a 42-21 victory.
Jackson finishes the season 7-4, and for the second straight year bow out in the semifinal round of the playoffs. Star Valley heads to a state title game with Powell, who pulled off an upset over Cody 20-13.
