Both the boys and girls basketball teams started strong but watched early leads slip away when Rock Springs found another gear to pull away in the second half.
For the girls, relief at not having to face the state’s top baller in Brenli Jenkins—out with injury—quickly turned to grief as junior Kamryn James stepped in the gap and more than made up for the Lady Tigers’ star player.
There were glimmers for the girls. Joanna Smits knocked down two straight treys and Karsen Breeding had another strong outing, but foul trouble put Morgan Duckett on the bench for long stretches and Gracie Hardeman could not get anything to fall all night.
The good news was the Jackson ladies managed to equal their point total for the last two games combined: 31. The bad news? The Lady Broncs gave up 53 to the Lady Tigers in the loss.
The boys got off to a slow, tedious start with Rock Springs. Neither team exactly shot it ‘lights out’ but the Broncs did enjoy an early lead in the first quarter until Jeb Brunner turned the ball over to Tigers’ leading scorer Alan Martinez who scored at the buzzer to make it a whopping 6-5 Rock Springs after the first 8 minutes.
The Tigers slowly pulled away and left the Broncs in the rearview mirror with a 64-34 win.
Gavin Brunner paced Jackson with another strong outing. Gavin Keelin was solid. But fellow frosh Sebastian Brunner and Andrew Hanna just weren’t feeling it Thursday night in Sweetwater County.
Both the boys and girls fall to 1-12. It doesn’t get any easier for the Lady Broncs who travel to Natrona Saturday to face the quadrant’s top team in the Lady Mustangs (10-2, 3-0). The Natrona boys are 3-9, 0-3.
