Nothing came easy for the Broncs Friday night as the hometown team squeaked by a physical Powell Panther team. Jackson put up 21 points in the first half and never scored again, hanging on for a 21-17 victory on Senior Night.
Jeydon Cox carried the load for the Broncs, finishing the night with a season-high 44 carries for 203 yards. Sadler Smith looked sharp, hitting on 11 of 22 passes but was all but grounded during conservative play-calling in the second half.
Powell’s comeback was fueled by a consistent ground game. Tailback Brody Karhu finished the night with 134 yards on 20 carries. He scored both Panther touchdowns.
The Broncs defense bent but never broke. They again forced turnovers—three interceptions and a fumble recovery—to stop Panther drives.
The win means Jackson will square off against Riverton in an away game on Friday Nov. 1 to begin the 3A playoffs.
The game will be broadcast on KZ95.3 FM and KZ95.LIVE.
