An early morning fire Sunday caused significant damage to Brooks Lake Lodge. According to a a posting by the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department on their Facebook page, fire units from their department responded to a report of a Structure Fire and the first arriving units found heavy smoke showing from the attic on the North End of dining room and bar area of the large log building. Firefighters attacked the fire from the interior and cut vent holes on the roof. The Historic building was saved, but with damage to the roof, dining room Ceilings and Sitting Room Ceilings. All 15 guest who were staying at the lodge at the time of the fire were evacuated safely with no injuries. Damage to the lodge is estimated at about $300,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
