Prosecutors have charged a father and son for allegedly poaching a momma grizzly bear in Fremont County. According to a report by East Idaho News, the bear was discovered in April shot several times and left where it died. The report goes on that conservation officers had been monitoring the bear and knew it had a den with a cub nearby.
Upon inspecting the den, they discovered the cub had died there when the mother had failed to return for several weeks. Fish and Game then turned to the media, announcing a $40,000 reward for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of anyone connected to the bear’s killing.
They also subpoenaed records from Google to learn who had electronic devices in the area of the bear’s shooting. The East Idaho News story says that the data they obtained led them to Jared Baum of Ashton. After further investigation Jared and his father Rex were charged on November 17th and will have a preliminary hearing in the case December 22nd.
