By mid-March households in Jackson and Teton County will begin receiving official US Census mail with detailed information how you can respond to the US Census. Local officials emphasize, do not discard it as junk mail. It’s important that everyone in Jackson and Teton County participate in the Census. The count is mandated by the Constitution and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency. The 2020 Census counts the population in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. The data collected by the census determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. It is also used in communities to help with economic development, business decisions, and strategic planning. Each home will receive an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire, either online, by phone, or by mail.
