Central Wyoming College hosts State math contest

Central Wyoming College’s Math Department will host the Wyoming State Math Contest on Thursday, May 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Over a hundred middle and high school students from the local area will attend the contest at the Rustler Gym.

Professor of Mathematics Mike Bostick said, “We’re excited to welcome students from around the region and share our love of mathematics with them.” Math is not only useful for building mental discipline and logical reasoning, but also plays a crucial role in understanding other subjects like science, social studies, music, and art. Math can lead to great careers in many fields, such as medicine, management, economics, government, computer science, physics, psychology, and engineering.

Central Wyoming College’s math program strikes a balance between theory and application and includes appropriate technology at all levels of the curriculum. Mathematician jobs are expected to grow by 28% from 2014 to 2024, resulting in approximately 42,900 new jobs. This growth is due to the increasing need for mathematicians to analyze digital and electronic data.

If you have questions about the contest or are interested in competing, contact Professor Mike Bostick at (307) 855-2179 or mbostick@cwc.edu.
