Chamber and The Community Foundation Commit to 100% Green Power

Whether you do good business or are in the business of doing good, your community leaders are committing to a more sustainable future for Jackson Hole. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole recently committed to purchase 100% Green Power from Lower Valley Energy (LVE). Chamber colleagues—The Jackson Travel and Tourism Board and Famer Payne Architects—will also have their operations powered by local wind power.

Working with LVE and Energy Conservation Works (ECW), the Chamber and Foundation evaluated this option and made a choice to support renewable energy.

“The Chamber is making the switch to Green Power because we believe in the long-term environmental benefits that come with it. One of our strategic pillars: Community Excellence is in place to guide us to promote excellence in sustainable business practices, conservation efforts, philanthropy and healthy lifestyle. This decision fits perfectly under that pillar and we encourage other businesses to adopt best practices that ensure good environmental stewardship and that continue to establish Jackson as a forward thinking and innovative community.”

Well versed in contributing to community excellence, the Community Foundation also saw the value of adopting Green Power. In the midst of their busiest week of the year, Foundation President, Katherine Conover, and the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole set aside the time to embody the values they support in the non-profit realm.

“The Community Foundation is making the switch to Green Power because it is good for our community and our planet. We regularly support conservation efforts through Old Bill’s and our Competitive Grants program and believe in taking this step for the long-term environmental benefits that it will provide. We are stewards for this awe-inspiring place we call home and as we work to make giving smarter and nonprofits more effective, we consistently consider ways to make our community stronger. Shifting the Foundation’s energy consumption to Green Power is a perfect fit.” Said Conover.

Energy Conservation Works partnered with Lower Valley Energy in 2017 to launch a concerted communications effort to promote LVE’s Green Power Program to its membership and the community, with the goal of doubling participation rates. To date, over 275 new homes and businesses have committed to Green Power through these efforts.

“We’ve made some great strides in our community and we want to continue this momentum to help Jackson become a leader in Green Power use,” said Phil Cameron, ECW’s Director. “We applaud those that have made this choice to support renewable energy and ask that this community rise to the challenge set by community leaders to increasingly use renewable energy through the Green Power Program.”

Lower Valley Energy obtains most of its Green Power from the Horse Butte Wind Farm located just south of Idaho Falls, Idaho. In addition, LVE also produces Green Power from its two low-impact hydro facilities at the Strawberry and Swift Creek projects (located in Bedford, WY and Afton, WY respectively). Energy produced from these projects is certified as Environmentally Preferred Power, a rating endorsed by national and northwestern region environmental organizations.

“Even with the added cost of Green Power, the rate at your electric cooperative is still half the national average. We are proud to serve our members with fuel options and alternatives as part of our effort to best serve your energy needs.” Jim Webb

Each business and home that signs up for Green Power means that much more Green Power is acquired by LVE. Your choice will bring additional Green Power into the local grid, allowing your home or business to be a part of our community’s sustainability solution while supporting future Green Power development.
