Chamber Mourns Lopez

January 29, 2015 by Jackson Hole Radio

The community is remembering Manuel Lopez, who served as Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Board President from 1985-86.

A torchlight parade down Snow King will be dedicated to Manuel on Friday, January 30. Planned as part of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race, the event will begin at 8:00pm.

The Chamber held its monthly board meeting Wednesday and Chair Anna Olson decided not to observe a traditional moment of silence. Past Chair Scott Anderson remarked, “Instead of a moment of silence, Anna thought it would be appropriate for everyone to stand up and give someone next to them a hug. It’s just the way Manny would’ve wanted it.”

President/CEO Jeff Golightly commented, “The community lost a visionary on Tuesday but the investments Manuel made in Jackson Hole, with capital and with spirit, will continue to pay dividends.”

The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce was pleased to have the opportunity to celebrate Manuel’s contributions to the Chamber and to the community of Jackson Hole with the 2014 Power of Place Award. Dozens of people gathered to celebrate Manuel at the special summertime gathering held on Town Square.

On the eve of the Power of Place Award presentation in August, Anna Olson commented, “The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce is honored to have the opportunity to recognize the decades of hard work and contributions to our community given by Manuel Lopez. His dedication to business opportunity, community outreach and innovative thinking will leave a lasting legacy. We know Manual as an amazing father, husband, and friend who deserves this public recognition for his tireless giving and we want him to know how much we value him.”

Manuel was an elemental citizen of Jackson Hole and served the community under many titles, including Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce Board President from 1984-85, and continued to share his insight and experience by participating in the Chamber’s Past Presidents Committee. He spent his career working to make Jackson Hole a world-class alpine destination.
