Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney has decried former President Donald Trump’s disparaging comments about retired Gen. Colin Powell following his death on Monday. Speaking with a reporter from the Cowboy State Daily, Cheney referred to the comments as “Pathetic garbage.” The former president wrote, “Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the fake news media. He was a classic RINO, if even that, always being the first to attack other Republicans. He made plenty of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace!” Trump’s Vice President Mike Pence, on the other hand called Powell a “true American patriot who served our Nation with distinction in uniform.” Former Republican President George W. Bush offered laudatory commendation for Powell as did former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden. Earlier this week, Former Vice President Dick Cheney said, “General Powell had a remarkably distinguished career… He was a man who loved his country and served her long and well.” Meanwhile, few current Republicans have responded to Trump’s derogatory comments.
