Sunday marks the Wilson Fire Department’s 52ndannual Chicken Fry. Located at the corner of Wyoming Highways 390 and 22, the event draws thousands of local residents annually for chicken, fried potatoes and salad for $12 – and it always sells out.
The line starts forming outside the serving tent well before the noon beginning of the event and food is typically sold out by mid-afternoon.
Members of the volunteer department spend the afternoon frying up about 3500 pounds of chicken and more than 1000 pounds of potatoes. Money raised from the chicken fry goes to purchase or repair equipment and offer training to firefighters. As such, the chicken fry is not only a successful fund-raiser each year, it serves as a gathering place for locals to spend an afternoon socializing.
