The Children’s Learning Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with events peppered through the coming months. In January of 1972, a handful of local women gathered to address an issue that challenged each one of them: reliable, safe, and educational support and care for children in Jackson Hole with a wide range of abilities and needs.
Until this point, few options existed for consistent daycare, and even fewer resources were available to children who had special needs. Shortly thereafter, a group of local parents was struggling to find reliable, affordable childcare.
Sandy Shuptrine and Lynn Simpson, among others, launched the Community Children’s Project, or CCP. Beginning as a parent co-op, CCP ultimately became the valley’s first childcare program in partnership with the county.
In 2008, The Learning Center and CCP officially merged, becoming today’s Children’s Learning Center. Over the course of 2022, The Children’s Learning Center will be showcasing pieces of its history via Facebook.
