An out-of-bounds-skier was injured Monday afternoon when he triggered an avalanche in the Space Walk Couloir. Lt. Matt Carr of the Teton County Sheriff’s Office says the 31-year-old male was skiing with a group of skiers shortly before 4:00 pm when he triggered the avalanche and was carried down the chute, was partially buried and injured. Ski patrollers from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort first responded to the incident and assessed the unnamed victim’s condition. Carr says due to the nature of the man’s injuries, the individual was packaged and a landing zone was prepared and the Teton County Search and Rescue helicopter was summoned to quickly evacuate the victim as it was becoming dark. The man was flown to the search and rescue hanger in Jackson and transported by ambulance from there to St. John’s Medical Center where Carr says the victim was treated for a hip injury.
