The Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities and Energy Conservation Works are hosting a two-day Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle Mechanic Training Course on August 5th- 6th at Lower Valley Energy in Jackson. The course will be led by Tom Clark of Western Wyoming Community College’s Automotive Technology Department. Although there will be no certificate of completion at the end of the course, mechanics can opt to take the certification test on their own time. Compressed natural gas is a cheap, efficient, and local alternative fuel for vehicles. It costs only $1.80/ gallon and releases 100 grams of carbon less per mile than gasoline. Even though the town’s CNG station has been a success, Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities and Energy Conservation Works see the possibility for more use, particularly by large commercial fleets. The two organizations hope that training local mechanics with the technology will increase the CNG vehicle adoption rate. The cost of the course is $2,080, however thanks to funding from Teton Conservation District, there are eight full scholarships available granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Local mechanics are encouraged to apply.
