With the cooler weather of the changing season, area residents will begin turning up the thermostats of their homes again. Depending upon the source of heat, Teton County Fire Marshal Kathy Clay says precautions should be made after months of being idle.
Clay says check to be sure combustibles have not been pushed up against the baseboards. If the heat is from a fuel-burning appliance, homeowners have other considerations to check.
Clay also urges homeowners to check that they have a working carbon monoxide alarm, not only in the vicinity of a fuel-burning appliance, but near the attached garage where cars can also generate carbon monoxide that can make its way into a home.
