Most people will be most anxious to bid 2020 goodbye tonight with a fair amount of celebration. However, that same COVID pandemic that caused so much grief this year is also cause for the public to temper their celebrations. Teton County Public Health Response Coordinator Rachael Wheeler says people need to consider health precautions in their New Year’s plans. “We’re asking people to take a more conservative approach this holiday; staying home, finding alternative ways to see their friends and families, and you can always watch the fireworks from home,” said Wheeler.
Wheeler points out that despite the decline in case counts and the advent of vaccines for the public, now is not the time to let our guard down.
“Even though our case counts are going down, we’re still at the same level in cases that we were at the peak in July, and so there’s still a lot more work to be done, so we are asking the community to be conservative this New Years,” she said.
Wheeler urges residents not to go to large gatherings and to continue wearing masks and social distancing when out in the community.
