COVID Conditions Improve in Teton County

February 11, 2021 by Jackson Hole Radio

Officials at the Teton County Health Department have announced that the county has moved into the Orange Risk Level signifying moderate levels of concern. The change from the Red Risk Level is due to continued improvements in local COVID-19 metrics.
In the last two weeks, Teton County noted 198 new cases, a 60% decrease from the previous two weeks, when 494 cases were detected. The percent of recent positive COVID-19 tests has also decreased to approximately 3.7% from 7% two weeks ago. Recent hospitalizations of COVID-19 cases have remained low and Teton County Health Department’s contact tracing team has been able to respond to each new case and their contacts.
While these trends are encouraging, new cases of COVID-19 in Teton County remain high. Teton County Health Department Epidemiologist, Shane Yu, MPH, reported, “We’re continuing to move in the right direction and that’s very encouraging. That said, our case numbers are still higher than they were during our peak last summer. Right now, we are able to move into the moderate risk level because the hospitalizations are low and the County’s contact tracing and testing capacities have improved over time. This all means we are better able to handle current case numbers which are still quite high despite the recent decrease. Everyone should continue to be very careful and follow all the standard precautions.”
The Health Department is reminding community members about the recommendations that come with the Orange Risk Level including avoiding large gatherings and crowded spaces, wearing masks, and maintaining at least six feet of distance from others and washing your hands frequently.
