Fire units were called to a home on Lake Creek Drive west of highway 390 at about 10:45 am Saturday. According to Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Battalion Chief Mike Moyer, a renter at the property had placed a bag of ashes from the fireplace out onto the wooden deck. When they noticed the coals had ignited a fire on the deck, they knocked it down with water while awaiting fire units.
Moyer says the fire had burned through the deck and there were still some hot spots left and charring on the side of the log home, which the firefighters put out.
Fortunately, there was no fire into the home itself. Moyer said the outcome could have been much different if the incident had occurred overnight when the residents were sleeping. Due to the small size of the fire, minimal response was needed from firefighters
