Delegation Condemns Mayhem

Members of Wyoming’s Washington Delegation condemned Wednesday’s storming of the US Capitol Building.
Demonstrators charged the complex and eventually made their way into the Senate Chamber. Both the House and the Senate were forced to recess in response to the breach.
Congresswoman Liz Cheney who is the third ranking Republican in the House put the blame for the riots squarely on the shoulders of the President, saying “The President of the United States called his supporters to Washington DC, and has dispatched them without telling them to stop it.” She pointed out that we live in a Republic that is ruled by the Constitution.
Cheney said, “We have very deep and clear political differences in this country, but we don’t resolve those differences by mob violence. It doesn’t matter what side of those issues you stand on. The President of the United States’ statement now, in my view, was completely inadequate – what he has done and what he caused here is something that we’ve never seen before in our history.”
Newly Elected Senator Cynthia Lummis who had been part of a movement to block the count of the Electoral College reacted to the riots saying, “The First Amendment only protects peaceful assembly. Call it what it is: An attack on the Capitol is an attack on democracy. Today we are trying to use the democratic process to address grievances. This violence inhibits our ability to do that”
Senator John Barrasso described Wednesday’s incidents as “violence and destruction,” and said that the actions had no place in “our republic.”
