DNA results received Wednesday by the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks biologists confirm the bear killed by wildlife officials last Friday was the same bear that fatally attacked a camper in the town of Ovando early on the morning of July 6th.
The male bear came to an area where several long-distance bicyclists were camped and pulled 65-year-old Leah Davis Lokan of Chico, California out of her tent before killing her. Wildlife officials shot and killed a grizzly bear less than two miles from Ovando.
The bear was killed at the scene of a second chicken coop raid that was very similar in nature to one that happened in Ovando the night of the fatal attack. Now, the DNA samples from the bear, saliva sample at the scene of the attack and samples from two chicken coops that were raided in the area all match up.
