The Town of Dubois will conduct a public meeting on August 14th to allow citizens to review and comment on plans to meter water use electronically. The own says electronic water meter project would allow the town operators to discover water losses quickly, thereby conserving water.
Water meters are known to register less usage as they get older. With automatic readers, meters are read more frequently and with increased accuracy. Any meter tampering is automatically detected, reducing operating costs, which eliminates keypad and recording errors incurred during manual reading and data entry. Water line leaks are detected sooner so repairs can be made faster. Remote shut-off valves can be installed to automatically cut off water upon leak location improving environmental protection as well as revenue.
Throughout the last 10 years, the Town of Dubois has been budgeting and upgrading 25-year-old water meters to electronic ones. $175,000 would be borrowed from the Wyoming Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund to help pay for the project. Town staff will then install the meters and radio units.
