Yellowstone National Park has announced the early opening of Dunraven Pass, allowing visitors access nearly a week ahead of schedule. The pass, which connects Canyon Village to Tower Fall, was originally slated to open on May 24 but is now accessible as of May 16. This early opening is thanks to the milder winter conditions this year, which allowed road crews to complete their spring plowing operations sooner than anticipated.
While Dunraven Pass is now open, Chittenden Road leading to Mount Washburn remains closed for the time being. With all park roads officially open for the season, park officials urge visitors to remain cautious. The park still experiences winter-like conditions in many areas during spring, with possible snow and ice covering roads and trails.

Visitors are advised to stay updated on road conditions and traffic delays that might arise due to ongoing road improvement projects. Information can be obtained by visiting the Park Roads section on the Yellowstone website, calling (307) 344-2117 for recorded updates, or receiving mobile alerts by texting “82190” to 888-777.
Additionally, with limited services available during spring, guests are encouraged to come prepared. Wildlife, including bison, elk, and bears, may be encountered on roads, using them as travel corridors. It is crucial for safety to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from all other wildlife.
